Boost your skin with a dose of super nutrients

Most women are familiar with the cleanse, tone and moisturise face ritual; day and night. However, if you want to give your skin a boost, a natural serum should be added to that daily regimen.

A serum drop of serum contains more antioxidants and nutrients than your usual moisturiser because a moisturiser typically is made out of a proportion of emollients which is necessary for sealing in moisture to your skin. Face serums contain a much higher concentration of active ingredients as it doesn't contain the heavier ingredients in moisturisers.

A good serum should contain antioxidants to help repair the skin, anti inflammatories to calm the skin and hydrators which are essential fatty acids and amino acids to protect against fine lines.

The principle of skincare is to maximise nourishment in order to best prevent damage and to also work hard to repair damage. Ingredients such as pomegranate seed oil, rosehip oil, argan oil, vitamin C, ubiquinone and camellia oil just to name a few, are scientifically proven to have damage repairing properties when used over a period of time. Natural serums are also typically boosted with nutritiously potent essential oils such as frankincense, lavender, geranium and rosemary.

Anyone of any age can benefit from using a serum as it feeds your skin with a wider array of nutrients. In fact the younger the better, so long as the ingredients are pure and natural. The skin has everything to gain and nothing to lose from using natural serums from early on. It's similar to having no 'ideal' age before you should start eating a wide array of healthy foods.

Natural serums are are not just for mature skin, anti aging or 'problem' skin. Everyone's skin benefits from a boost of highly nutritious botanical bio nutrients! Antioxidants have to work harder as we age to counter the accumulation of free radicals in our skin. It's best to use an antioxidant rich serum before major damage occurs.

Serums should be applied after toning and before applying a moisturiser to ensure the benefits are absorbed deep into the skin. The molecules in serums are much smaller relative to those in a moisturiser which helps it penetrate the skin more effectively.

It's still vital to use a moisturiser over the serum, unless you have very oily skin. Think of a serum as delivering a boost nutrients and the moisturiser as locking in those nutrients whilst keeping your skin hydrated. A serum delivers active ingredients deep within the skin whilst the moisturiser protects, hydrates and seals in those benefits. Obviously a good natural moisturiser should also be formulated with nutrient rich bio actives.

Using a good natural serum might add a few extra $$ to the skincare regimen but it's worth it's weight in gold as as it will help strengthen the skin's barrier by building strong cell membranes.
