Rosemary is one of our favourite essential oils. We use it in almost every product in our range. Here's why.

A perennial herb and member of the mint (Lamiaceae) family who can count thyme, oregano and basil as some of her cousins. The name Rosemary, is derived from the Latin word dew of the sea ("ros" & "marinus").  

Rosemary does so much more than add flavour to cooking. Due to its high antioxidant and antimocrobial activities it is used as a food grade preservative. It's also used in skincare to prevent ingredients from oxidising or going rancid. Studies have shown that rosemary's free radical scavenging abilities are have liver protecting effects. 

It contains calcium, iron, copper, magnesium and potassium and an excellent source of vitamins A and C, folate, calcium and iron.

Rosemary contains the mineral manganese which working closely with an antioxidant called superoxide Dismutase.

Rosemary's B vitamins include pantothenic acid, pyridoxine and riboflavin.

The essential oil of rosemary, steam distilled from the leaves contains key consituents of 1,8 Cineole (Eucalyptol) (38-55%),  Camphor (5-15%),  Alpha Pinene (9-14%), Beta-Pinne (9-14%), Camphene (2.5-6%), Borneol (1.5-5%) and Limonene (1-4%).

Rosemary essential oil has anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial properties. 

The ORAC (antioxidant) value of rosemary essential oil is 330 uTE/100g. This together with it's antimicrobial properties makes it useful in fighting off infections and disease. Inhaling the oil can provide relief from respiratory irritation.

Regular use of rosemary essential oil stimulates hair follicles, helps remove dandruff and conditions the scalp and hair.

Rosemary's antibacterial properties makes it useful as a mouth wash by removing bad breath, gingivitis.

It's antiseptic and antimicrobial qualities make it beneficial for skincare and acne.  

Rosemary essential oil is often promoted for its ability to relieve pain, which is why it's widely used in treating headaches, muscle pains, and even arthritis.

It can help relieve  flatulence, stomach cramps, and bloating.

Research shows that rosemary essential oil can help detoxify the liver and help regulate the creation and release of bile, a key part of the digestive process.

Rosemary helps overcome mental fatigue, boosts alertness, mental clarity and eases anxiety. It has been shown to decrease the level of cortisol, thereby reducing the effects of chronic stress.
